How Easy Is It To Electrify A Bike?

If you are already an experienced cyclist, it is likely that you have invested in a decent bike, and are happy with its quality and performance. Cycling is great exercise, and an excellent eco-friendly way to enjoy the outdoors. However, sometimes we need to simply get from A to B in a reasonable time, and this is when a bit of extra power can invaluable.

For this reason, or just because they want a little extra oomph to get up those hills or make more adventurous road trips, many cyclists are now exploring ways to convert their bikes to an e-bike. This means that they get to keep their tried and trusty machine, while gaining that extra power when they need it.

So how easy is it to electrify your existing bike? The answer is that it is a fairly straightforward process. You will of course need to buy an electric bike conversion kit, but in many cases, this will be cheaper than buying a ready-made e-bike, plus you don’t have to part with your trusty old friend. You can still choose to ride it with the battery turned off.

The first thing is to make sure that the kit you buy will fit your bike; the manufacturer should be able to advise you about this. They should also provide you with a clear instruction manual and online video support, so make sure this is available before you make your purchase. With the right guidelines, the fitting should take under an hour.

Work out how long you want your fully charged bike to take you, as this will affect the size of battery you need. Take into account extra power needed for hilly journeys, your weight, whether you regularly ride in windy conditions, and what type of tyres you have, as these factors all affect the amount of power you will need.
